# S006: use a named retained result, read its original source and return

**Selected and underway · unjudged · four integrated boundaries at Foundation**

[Current progress](/development/progress.html) · [Work and acceptance](/development/progress-scope.html) · [Complete prior history](/development/progress-history.html)

This plan and current progress share fixed native cutoff **4900**, recorded **8 October 2026 at 08:30:18 UTC / 02:30 MDT**. Later messages are excluded. Rowan leads development; Juniper supports integration and reporting. Reporting does not wait for host authoring/install or introduce a development approval gate.

## One useful result

A permitted caller receives a shipped entry and a meaningful named retained result. The caller uses actual semantic assessment to read that result’s **exact original source**, sees useful ordinary output, deliberately inspects unchanged references when needed, and reopens the same result/action.

The selected work reuses a genuine retained domain result, the existing Shape Engine and the Content owner. Real fixture values, actual owner IDs and private test/interface packets are excluded here. The participant receives entry and result name, not a private expression or opaque-ID recipe. Authored source text remains byte intact; ordinary presentation hides system metadata rather than deleting IDs from authored text.

## Four selected integrated boundaries

| Boundary | Maturity at cutoff | Evidence and unfinished use |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Named retained result and reopen | **Foundation** | Scratch keep/reopen preserved the full nested value and original reference. The installed useful named result/action and same-original reopening journey remain unqualified. |
| Semantic original-source action | **Foundation** | Read-only host and exact Content input are selected. Compiled root-schema RED and a frozen GREEN request do not prove actual installed assessment, exact full-source equality or refusal behavior. |
| Ordinary CLI/MCP/Lisp output and deliberate inspection | **Foundation** | Typed presentation and unchanged raw/inspect references are contracted. Behavioral RED and frozen check requests are preparation, not passing installed use. |
| Operator shared action, full viewport, back and reopen | **Foundation** | Reuse the existing full Note viewport/back path with the same query/helper action. Go/Rust source and requested checks do not establish the installed operator journey. |

Foundation means the selected integrated boundary has a contract and preparation. The standalone engine’s earlier exercised capability does not qualify its new Sidecat consumer path. Scratch PASS, compiled RED, source observation, frozen GREEN request, passing results, delivery, installed use and independent qualification establish different facts.

## Shared query and exact dispatch contract

One small read-only host exposes `sidecat.dev/semantic-assessment` → `assessment.check` through the existing public `api/application/v1/apphost Query` interface around the Shape Engine library. It is selected integration, **not an installed API claim**.

The query takes `{operation: capability.Operation, documents: schema.Document[], request: capability.Request}` and returns `{assessment: capability.Report}`. The caller supplies the live owning declaration, whole schema closure, captured domain value and explicit member association. The query does not fetch Content, retain references, dispatch owner effects or create a catalog/router/business table.

The helper associates `/fields/source` with input `content`, retains the unchanged assessment and complete argument preview, and calls `content.note.read` with `{content: completeSourceRef}` only for a ready exact-original branch. The six-field source reference travels privately and unchanged. A current-note alternative is a separately labeled new observation; it is never substituted for the original. Application owners retain execution and authority.

The accepted narrow engine interface includes `capability.Load(io.Reader)` deriving omitted ports from the whole declaration and `Catalog.WithContractDocuments([]schema.Document)` copying supplied absolute-URI schema documents. Malformed or duplicate resolved absolute URIs are errors; explanatory relative names are skipped; missing usable closure yields assessment unknown. `Operation.SchemaBaseURI`, `Port.Branches` and `Candidate.InputContract` preserve branch-aware assessment and the unchanged report. These are source/interface contracts, not passing or installed results.

CLI/MCP use the ordinary operation call; Lisp uses the same query through `sidecat/call`. The operator reuses its existing Note query/full viewport/back/technical inspection path and invokes the helper through its existing JSON runner. Inspect must show the same assessment, owner input and owner result. No UI-only assessor or automatic current-note fallback is selected.

## Owned work in parallel

| Owner scope | Selected responsibility |
| --- | --- |
| Linden | Maintained caller/helper/resource composition, exact carried inputs and stable conversation/Team behavior. |
| Rowan presentation author A | Useful ordinary CLI/MCP output and typed inspection, with raw machine values unchanged. |
| Rowan engine author B | Whole declarations, supplied full schema closure, branch alternatives and complete assessment preview. |
| Rowan operator author C | Thin shared helper/action connection to the existing full Note viewport, back and reopen path. |
| Rowan host author | Small standalone read-only apphost Query wrapper on the accepted narrow engine interface. |
| Juniper support | Actual-data integration, fresh use and bounded public reporting. |
| Aspen | Independent finite charter, observation and acceptance judgment. |
| Cedar | Frozen-source checks, native publication, artifacts and matched installation. |

Ownership is not proof of continuously running workers. A cumulative source precondition applies only to the affected write; stable interface handoff proceeds independently of the full engine GREEN result. Existing owner checks and concrete review proceed without a Root source-review gate. Resource bounds are readiness/work/review/trial limits, not an invented operational clock or deadline.

## Corrected independent acceptance

A fresh unfamiliar permitted caller receives only the shipped entry and meaningful result name. The actual shared query explains the association and complete preview against the real full alternative schema. The owning Content read returns the full original source equal to an independent exact read. Ordinary CLI/MCP/Lisp/operator output is useful, deliberate inspection carries unchanged references/input, and reopen preserves the same original revision and action. An optional current observation is labeled separately.

Missing members, competing associations and unsupported/missing schema are honest **pre-dispatch non-success with zero Content reads**. A real owner refusal comes from **exactly one attempted authorized owning Content read**; preserve that native refusal, with no current/other-owner fallback and no automatic retry. Permission known unavailable before dispatch is unavailable, not an actual owner-refusal observation.

Count preparation, help, discovery, retries, returning use, nested owner calls, output volume and assistance separately. Two-call returning use is a target, not a passing quota. The installed sample waits for a named shipped entry, preparation contract and matched candidate. Scratch retention, compiled RED and frozen requests do not begin the trial or install the host.

## What remains true from earlier work

S005’s finite guidance-use boundary remains **Qualified and completed**. Preserve its three accepted samples and disclosed **34/68 calls**, first **22 reader calls transcribed**, **README 403/local checkout fallback**, UI setup assists and beginning/PageDown/end coverage, administrative pre-charter sequence and actual attention activation. Fresh worker contexts used an existing actor; they do not establish human participation or new enrollment. Eight cards are explanations, not eight capabilities.

S004 remains **not completed**, with its original human/UI/complete-continuation owners and unknown send untouched. All **sixteen full Version 1 outcomes remain incomplete**. Jev and general semantic routing remain unselected. The exact prior selection, evidence, agreement pins and history are retained, without rescoring prior results as S006.

The report read complete native Notes 4855, 4858, 4873, 4898, 4899 and 4900. Exact selection-time Plan owner read happened later and is timestamped separately in source metadata; it showed underway with no judgment. This is not an atomic current-state fence. Public metadata carries sequence/title/time and summary scope; private fixture/owner references and test packets remain outside publication.
